Financial Statements

The Maryland Rules require 2 separate forms of Financial Statements. One is a long form used when alimony is requested the other is a short form used only when child support is requested. if you are requesting both alimony and child support, use the long form.

Financial Statement Long Form used for alimony claim

Financial Statement Short Form used when you are requesting child support only.

Practice Note

The Importance of the Financial Statement can not be over emphasized. This is a piece of evidence in your case signed by your client. I have seen many times when counsel submits a financial statement that was not pre-contemplated for accuracy. The expenses must be reasonable and supported by documentation. if there is a negative deficient at the end of the month then you must explain how your client paid those bills. In such event you need bank statements, credit cards, loans, some explanation to answer the obvious question. Where did the money come from to pay the bills. If your client is self employed you must must have proof the ordinary and necessary business expenses. Other wise the gross business income will be consider income to your client.
